London Festival of Architecture Highlights

London Festival of Architecture is on! London Design Agenda takes a tour trough the city-wide celebration of architectural experimentation and will show you the Highlights for this year Festival.

‘Work in Progress’ is this years theme for the annual London Festival of Architecture, a month-long celebration of architectural experimentation, thinking and practice, will take place at venues across the capital from 1st to the 30th of June.

The 2015 festival will also feature an expanded international programme which includes the Serpentine’s 15th annual summer pavilion designed by Spanish architects SelgasCano and the introduction of an international Focus Country – Ireland – presented in partnership with Irish Design 2015, a year long international celebration of Irish Design, and the British Council.

A programme of workshops and events will extend to various areas of the festival and London Design Agenda has selected the highlights for this year.

The world’s largest open-submission show of contemporary art and architecture, the RAA’s Summer Exhibition celebrates its 247th year with an installation that honors established names and newcomers alike.

Workshop: “Shooting and Sharing Architecture: How to Get the Best from Your Camera Phone”

For those looking for tips and tricks to take their architecturally inclined Instagram to the next level, this workshop hosted by the Architectural Association Night School will teach the basics of shooting buildings old and new.

The role of architectural models, how they were used as an essential tool during Soane’s time and how they still perform a crucial role in the design process today and also to celebrate the reopening of Soane’s famed Model Room for the first time in 160 years.

London Festival of Architecture. New Now Next. Design Museum

The festival has designated Ireland as its 2015 International Focus Country, and architects including Clancy Moore, TAKA, Steve Larkin, and Hall McKnight have collaborated on two temporary structures in King’s Cross. “New Now Next” gathers the aforementioned group for a discussion about the future of the Ireland’s architectural landscape.

Taking place at the Zaha Hadid–designed Roca Gallery in South London, this panel by Jeremy Myerson, Sevil Peach, and Bjarke Ingels will address the future of work space design and how to optimize productivity and well-being. The talk is sponsored by the Museum of London and The Guardian.

The World Architecture Festival pops up at the London event with a four-day exhibition of the international buildings and interiors that have been named WAF 2015 finalists.

Film: Architecture on Film: The Machine Stops + Fortress of Solitude
Cinema 1, The Barbican Centre, Silk Street

The Architecture Foundation presents two films that explore the mechanized home: The Machine Stops, a 1966 work by Philip Saville that dramatizes E. M. Forster’s short story of the same name, and Fortress of Solitude, a short documentary by the design research firm Space Caviar that considers the future of the home.
