Firmdale Hotels took its winning formula a few blocks south to Haymarket, where it opened another property – named after the street. This, too, has proved a runaway success, and while it has all the markings of a classic Firmdale hotel, it also has a number of quirks of its own.
Housed in a central landmark building by the architect John Nash, whose other projects include Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, the 50-room Haymarket fuses modern and classical interior design, mixing antiques, art and custom-made furniture.
It also features bespoke bath products by Miller Harris. The colour scheme is unmistakably Kit Kemp with a palette spanning everything from sepia-tone jungle landscape wallpaper to panels of hot pink. Don’t miss the English brasserie-style Brumus Restaurant and Bar for imaginative cocktails and organically grown seasonal food, and the enormous subterranean pool with a bar.
For those looking for something more discreet, the hotel comes with its own five-bedroom townhouse, which can be rented on an exclusive use basis.
