A BULLET FROM A SHOOTING STAR
Conceptual artist Alex Chinneck is renowned for elevating everyday structures into the extraordinary by introducing an element of fantasy into familiar situations. Uniting art, design, architecture and engineering, his public installations are considerable in both scale and ambition.
A Bullet from a Shooting Star takes the form of a regular electricity pylon but given the structural feat it is performing, the design is far from conventional. Referencing the industrial history of the site which once included the largest oil and gas works in Europe and a steelworks, Chinneck will create a lattice of steel, that resembles an upside down pylon, leaning at a precarious angle as though shot into the earth. To complement the external installation, NOW Gallery will house Straight Jacket Star Jumps, a 20-metre-long curled up pylon opening 19 September.

VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM
A unique collaboration between the world’s leading museum of art and design and London’s foremost contemporary design festival. This year’s programme will once again fill the Museum with an extraordinary range of design installations large and small, intricate and majestic. Highlights will include Zotem by Kim Thomé in the Grand Entrance, Curiosity Cloud by mischer’traxler in the Norfolk House Music Room, The Cloakroom by Faye Toogood, Mise-en-abyme by Laetitia de Allegri & Matteo Fogale, the Ogham Wall by Grafton Architects in the Tapestries Gallery and an exhibition showing works in wood by Robin Day.
A first will be the London Design Festival shop at the V&A offering a curated selection of design related products alongside Festival merchandise. The shop has been specially designed by Swiss-born, London-based design duo Loris Jaccard and Livia Lauber.

SOMERSET HOUSE
This year Somerset House becomes a major new destination for the London Design Festival. Within the historic setting of Somerset House will be exhibitions showcasing collaborations between designers and brands, a presentation of the winning entries from a competition with Twitter, an exploration of how an ancient tree can continue to have a function even after being felled and a display showing the work of the winners of The British Land Celebration of Design awards.
The West Wing Galleries will host ten internationally renowned design names, who are creating innovative individual room installations within the rooms of the West Wing Galleries. Participants comprise Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Nendo, Faye Toogood, Arik Levy with Tabanliogu Architects, Jasper Morrison with Punkt., Alex Rasmussen with Neal Feay, PATTERNITY with Paperless Post, Tino Schaedler with Optimist Design & United Realities, Ross Lovegrove with KEF and Luca Nichetto with Hem.

1882 LTD. AND BENCHMARK: FACTORY
FACTORY will bring together the craft industries of Benchmark and 1882 Ltd. with designers including Lindsey Adelman, Max Lamb and Kiki Van Eijk. Co-hosted by the Future Laboratory. Join for conversation, stories and making. Food and drink will be served in the courtyard garden.

ARTISA FOUNDATION: SOUNDS LIKE HOME
The idea of home is changing. We are moving more frequently from house to house, country to country. This immersive event asks the audience to speculate on what home means to them. It translates everyday domestic interaction into a soundscape, creating a unique song of the places we live in.

BETTER BANKSIDE: COLOURFUL CROSSINGS
Better Bankside has commissioned three very different artists to bring colour and animation to Southwark Street, London SE1. Colourful Crossings marks the first commissions made through the Avenue of Art initiative which will take art out of its traditional gallery contexts and transform public spaces.

BETTER LETTERS / GHOSTSIGNS: SIGNS & SIGNWRITING IN BANKSIDE
Signs and Signwriting in Bankside offers the chance to: try your hand at painting letters with sign legend Mike Meyer, compare the signwriting traditions of the USA and UK through a cinematic double bill and travel back in time to appreciate yesteryear’s signwriting in the form of ‘ghostsigns’.

BLACKHORSE WORKSHOP: THE MAKERS PLAYGROUND
The Makers Playground takes over Blackhorse Workshop, providing the antidote to all things too serious. A crowd of makers propose objects, participative workshops, after dark events, outdoor installations, off-grid cinema, a fantastic machine for serving drinks and new designs on the dance floor.

BRIXTON DESIGN TRAIL:STREET GALLERY FEATURING ELEY KISHIMOTO BRIXTON PRINT
Architects Squire and Partners will create a Street Gallery at the former Bon Marche Dept Store, with ten canvases created for the Brixton community by local designers. The Gallery will launch a bespoke Brixton print by Eley Kishimoto, ‘The Patron Saints of Print’, adorning the façade and pavement.

THE BUILDING CENTRE: 41: A HOUSE FOR LONDON
Explore a shipping container house pushing design boundaries with seamlessly adaptable spaces and innovative tech to support modern lifestyles. Built as a response to the housing crisis with open-source designs freely shared. Creative team: Arup, Carl Turner Architects, CBMM and The Building Centre.

BUSTER + PUNCH: GET HARD
Buster + Punch are a London-born design label. They work with rare, solid materials to make extraordinary items for everyday use. For the first time, Buster + Punch open their debut London Bridge Showroom. Guests will view the exclusive UK launch of the new HARDWARE range. Special events and guests too!

CANADA HOUSE: DESIGN IN CANADA: OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA
Reflecting the spirit of the Canadian province of British Columbia’s creativity, 50 award-winning applied artists and designers turn to wood, glass, ceramic, metal, textiles, plastics and other materials to craft beautiful and functional forms for people from all walks of life.

CASSINA: LC50 – GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF THE LC COLLECTION
LC50 – Cassina celebrates the 50th anniversary of the LC Collection at its London Flagship store on Brompton Road. 2015 marks an important year, firstly to commemorate Le Corbusier’s death and, above all, to celebrate one of the most significant collections of contemporary design.

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS: THE INTELLIGENT OPTIMIST
Central Saint Martins presents The Intelligent Optimist, an exhibition and events programme exploring various futures for design. Future Gazers, Material Explorers, Social Agents and The Fixers, all use creative practices and critical intelligence to propose provocative and hopeful new perspectives.

DESIGN MUSEUM: CELEBRATING RISING TALENT, NEW IDEAS AND RICH LEGACIES
See 75 of the best design projects from around the world, the surprising design story behind a much-beloved shoe brand, how emerging designers see the concept of migration and a pop-up by Lippincott on the human impact of a branded world.

ETSY UK: FOUR CORNERS OF CRAFT
Etsy unites the best of UK craft with an exhibition in partnership with Tent London, the Crafts Council and arts organisations in England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales. A diverse and exciting selection of contemporary craft from the four corners our country, tied together by the quality of making.

FREDRIKSON STALLARD: MOMENTUM
Staged at Fredrikson Stallard’s theatrical Holborn Studio and HQ, Momentum is a celebration of the experimental and the rigorous, the unique versus the mass produced. The new works span across the realms of furniture, sculpture, product and print, with one-off, edition and transitory pieces.

GEFFRYE MUSEUM OF THE HOME: CERAMICS IN THE CITY: A SELLING FAIR FEATURING 50 POTTERS
This vibrant, popular celebration of ceramics brings together the work of 50 ceramicists from across the UK – a mix of leading names and rising talents – in a riot of colour, styles, textures and techniques. Talk to the potters, watch demonstrations, browse and buy.

HABITAT: INSIDE OUT: FURNITURE FROM THE CRAFTS COUNCIL COLLECTION
Crafts Council has teamed up with Habitat to launch Inside Out, an exhibition presenting key furniture pieces from the Crafts Council Collection. With works dating from the 1970s onwards, the Collection is a rich archive of making in the UK that embraces all the main craft disciplines.
