The Guard which mounts at Buckingham Palace is called The Queen’s Guard and is divided into two Detachments: the Buckingham Palace, and the St. James’s Palace Detachment. These guard duties are normally provided by a battalion of the Household Division and occasionally by other infantry battalions or other units.

Notting Hill Carnival

The streets of West London come alive every August Bank Holiday weekend as London celebrates Europe’s biggest street festival – the Notting Hill Carnival.First held in 1964 as an offshoot of the Trinidad Carnival, the Notting Hill Carnival has remained true to its Caribbean roots, bringing a spirit of diversity to London.When the Notting Hill Carnival first started around 500 people attended. Today it attracts hundreds of thousands to London, and continues to grow in popularity. You can expect to see some 50,000 performers and 40 sound systems. Around 2.5 million people attend over the Carnival weekend.

Have dinner at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant

Jamie Oliver was born into the cooking business, working in the kitchens of his family pub from the age of 7. After catering college, Jamie worked in London with Antonio Carluccio at The Neal Street Restaurant and Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers at The River Café.

He shot to fame in his first TV series The Naked Chef, followed by The Return of the Naked Chef and Happy Days with the Naked Chef. In his series Jamie’s School Dinners, Jamie tried to improve school meals in Britain. The show saw him take on the British Government – as a result, the government increased funding for school meals. His show Jamie at Home explores growing and cooking your own produce.
