The Ritz is a trully famous luxury hotel known for its refined French château–style architecture and Louis XVI furnishings. King Alfonso of Spain, Andy Warhol and Charlie Chaplin are among the elite that have stayed there through the years.
The Connaught first began in 1815 as two houses owned by the Duke of Westminster. Since the, the illustrious hotel and restaurants have received the likes of Ralph Lauren, the French President General Charles de Gaule and even the Queen mother herself!
The Brown’s Hotel is believed to be the first modern hotel in London. Open since 1837, it has accomodated guests such as inventor Alexander Graham Bell, who in 1876 made the first telephone call from the hotel. Agatha Christie was a regular here and wrote several of here novels in The Brown’s.
The Dorchester remains opulent just like in 1930 when it first drew royals and dignitaries to the hotel. Queen Elizabeth II attended a dinner party here the day before her engagement was announced on July 10, 1947.
Dating from 1856, The Claridge’s has evolved greatly over its 150-year history. Renovated in the Art Deco style in the 1920s, it became the go-to haunt for the flapper set. The Claridge’s also became a Hollywood sanctuary in the 1950s, when it welcomed such famed guests as Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, and Yul Brynner.
