The International Design & Architecture Awards, are hosted by design et al, a leading UK interior design magazine. Offering a number of different categories covering residential architecture, interior design and product design, these awards are highly regarded as one of the best in the industry, and thus, competition is fierce. Today, we’re going to show you a great London project shortlisted for the Overall development category, 55 Victoria Street apartment complex!
Design et al announced that Stiff + Trevillion / Alchemi Group / Studio L London have been shortlisted for Overall Development – UK & Europe Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017. The project that warranted this distintion is 55 Victoria street, that offers 57 spacious, New York loft style apartments with spectacular panoramic views over London’s skyline and its finest landmarks.
This project involved the radical reworking of a 1980’s office building. The existing building was stripped back to the frame and extended to form a striking volumetric composition with a prominent twelve storey vertical element. The collaboration during the course of the project between Alchemi Group, Studio L London and Stiff + Trevillion was a key aspect of the project. The final product would not have come out so beautifully and cohesively if all companies did not have the same goal in mind from the outset. All the while, respecting each other’s voice in achieving the outcome.
Taking into account the location and history is key to what the designers like to achieve. Alchemi Group were the first developer to insist on using brick, which picks up on the neighbouring buildings and streets that surround, whilst also honouring the architectural history of the area. Even though it’s a modern design, it’s also current and timeless because of the materials and the way they are used.
The result of this is a development that is unique in every sense. Danish charcoal-fired brick cladding, beautiful bronzed balustrades and handcrafted terracotta glazed tiles juxtaposed with high end marbles and dark timber flooring set off the subtly dramatic, open plan loft spaces which are flooded with light.
A trully magnificent project, fully deserving its nomination in The International Design & Architecture Awards!
