If you like to dance on the ceiling this summer you have to go one of this places and find out the capital’s best rooftop shindigs.
Soak up some of the capital’s best sounds whilst soaking up some of the capital’s best views this summer. As soon as the sun comes out, head up to London’s best rooftop venues and enjoy a scorcher of an evening at a height.
Dalston Roof Park
Crane your neck above Café Oto and you might spot this charming pop-up roof garden, which springs back into action for the season, often hosting events organised by London promoters who love their alternative beats and bass. Warm and cosy, with grow bags and solar panels in view and astroturf under foot, the Roof Park should be in full swing all summer.
Netil House
This unassuming building near London Fields, home to over 90 artist studios, plays host to some seriously vibrant nightlife. When there’s not hundreds of sweaty ravers dancing their socks off in its warehouse space, Netil House’s decking-clad rooftop offers superb views of the city. Throw in a bar, some music and the occasional open-air film screening and you’ve got yourself a superb summer nights venue.
Queen of Hoxton
A cool bar and club all year round, this Hoxton haunt takes the action onto their huge rooftop when summer lands. You’ll be able to soak up anything from daytime silent discos (previous spinners at these headphone affairs have included Ashley Beedle and Jazzie B) to film screenings to workshops – rooftop Tie-Dye, anybody?
The Prince of Wales
Formerly known as Brixton Clubhouse and then The Lambeth, this celebrated pub/club venue has finally settled on The Prince of Wales as a name, and it’s still one of London’s sweetest spots for rooftop partying. You can hear all kinds of top DJ talent spinning tunes on the banked, multi-tiered roof terrace – which remains the venue’s centrepiece – usually on a funk, disco, soul and house tip. The Up On The Roof… series, featuring Norman Jay and Marshall Jefferson, amongst others, is a good indicator of the booking policy, making this one of the best destinations for summer fun.
Rockwell House
This vast Shoreditch rooftop space (3,000 square feet) is perfect for big-time parties with big-time views across The City and east London. It’s frequented by some seriously cool clientele and soundtracked by equally cool DJs and producers. A highlight on Rockwell’s calendar is the … by Soundcrash
The Roof Gardens
London’s only rooftop members’ club features three suitably plush, themed gardens spread over 1.5 acres. Handily, the venue also holds events open to non-members, so that anyone can enjoy lush and luxurious partying from high up, at quirky, themed events (like a Mad Hatter’s tea party) and straight-up DJ nights that lean towards house, funk and disco. Remember to break out your gladrags and dress to impress.
