The best design celebration in the entire world is almost here. London will be celebrating for the most part of this month and we’re going to be all over the multiple events throughout the city. We’ve already recommended the best places to rest after an exhausting day, but there is one major aspect missing: food. Here are the best and most glamorous restaurants to try out during this year’s London Design Festival!
AQUA KYOTO
If your tastes skew oriental, head to Kyoto’s cool Japanese cuisine, complete with sunken sushi bar and sumbiyaki charcoal grill. Decked out in crushed red velvet, dark wood tables and traditional ink drawn wall murals slickly backlit around the room, it’s a dark, sexy affair serving up some of the freshest sushi in town, from yellowtail tuna to eel teriyaki and scallop sashimi. Make sure that you don’t forget about the Roof Terrace, which is one of the hottest places to chill out during the summer months.
BABYLON
If you‘re looking for a unique restaurant that‘s a cut above the rest in terms of setting and quality, look no further than Babylon at the Roof Gardens. Perched above Kensington High Street like Nebuchadnezzar‘s hanging gardens, head chef Ian Howard is dishing out superlative Modern British fare such as a salt cured, slow cooked leg of Gressingham duck with blackberry preserves. Dress to impress and don‘t hesitate to hit the club afterwards!
CELESTE
The Lanesborough Hotel has always been world class, but its extensive 2015 refurbishment elevated it to the stratosphere. The Céleste dining room has a pedigree to match its chefs and is as brightly appointed as the heavens. High-end modern European cuisine with a well-earned Michelin star, Céleste at The Lanesborough is the consummate special occasion restaurant.

FRESCOBALDI
The Frescobaldi family has been a major player in Italian history and culture since the 12th Century, which has given them ample time to perfect the art of eating and drinking. One thing that you notice when visiting Frescobaldi is the volume of chefs bustling around the open-plan kitchen downstairs. As with any true-blooded Italian eatery, there‘s an obsession with precision. A perfect choice for the Italian cuisine lovers!
MOMO
Momo opened during the heady days of the late nineties and immediately captured the hearts and palates of the likes of Madonna, Kate Moss and Tracey Emin. Now, almost a decade and a half later, it is still the beating heart of London‘s Middle East. The food matches the atmosphere in vibrance, get seduced by sumptuous starters like harira or inventive duck bourek with apple chutney. For mains choose from delicious tagines or the Couscous Momo which includes lamb shank, Josper-grilled lamb skewers and merguez. Dessert doesn‘t disappoint with the menu offering dishes like deep fried crème brulee or a maple pecan parfait.
ROAST
The bustling Borough Market has won the hearts of many a gourmand throughout the years. Presiding over it all with magisterial stature is Roast, the restaurant engineered by Cinnamon Club‘s culinary mogul Iqbal Wahhab. From artisanal cheeses to foraged produce, you can be assured that food on your plate is the freshest available. The menu is Modern British – full of the staple dishes that you crave but don‘t have the time to prepare at home.
ROUX AT THE LANDAU
Lodged in the lavish grand hotel The Langham which fronts Portland Place, Roux at the Landau brought together famous father-son duo Michel and Albert to create a restaurant that is inside-and-out opulent. The food is quite French and divine. Menu standouts include chorizo filled rabbit leg with Scottish langoustines and saffron scented callaspara rice or try the butter roast fillet steak with seared grelot onions and wild garlic béarnaise.
