The green invasion is coming to London once more! St Patrick’s day lands on a Saturday this year and that weekend is going to be absolutely thrilling with celebrations. From the parade to the best pubs to drink some Guiness from, check out where are the best places to celebrate St Patrick’s day in London, enjoy!
The most remarkable Irish holiday, celebrated in the most heavily Irish-populated countries, the 17th of March marks the death of St. Patrick, who brought Christianity to the Irish pagans in the 5th century. Nowadays, the holiday celebrates Irish culture and heritage, with green colours, three-leaved clovers and some heavy drinking!
Landing on a Saturday, this year the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day will be complete with celebrating from the 16-18 March, set to see over 125,000 turning out for Irish food, dancing and a giant parade featuring pageantry, floats and music.
The St Patrick’s Day parade will be on Sunday 18th March at 12pm, while the drinking will be all throughout the weekend. This year’s festival celebrates the achievements of Irish women at the most iconic London landmarks, going from Hyde Park Corner, to Piccadilly, to Haymarket, to Trafalgar Square, to Whitehall.
London’s St Patrick’s Day parade lines the streets from Piccadilly to Trafalgar Square and cheers on a stream of leprechaun floats, traditional musicians and squads of Irish dancers. The main stage at Trafalgar Square will be surrounded by a street food market and a ‘tea tent’, with a line-up of Irish bands.
Because St. Patricks’ Day is also about drinking. Ok, it’s a lot about drinking. And London has no shortage of wonderful Irish pubs to visit to get a Guiness or any other pint, as long as you do it the Irish way, by drinking several of them. My absolute favourite Irish pub in London is Waxy O’connors, there is just such a great ambience inside, and also a massive tree!
You can also head down to the mythical The Temple Bar, as celebrations there are top notch! So get ready, get your Irish flags, your leprechaun decor and prepare you liver, because St. Patrick’s Day 2018 promises to be absolutely epic in London!
