Perfectly groomed hostesses greet arrivals to this basement den. With a lively atmosphere, here you have to try a Lychee Mojito, which fuses Havana Club Añejo Blanco, lime juice, lychees and mint, or a martini made with Hendrick’s gin and cucumber garnish. Crazy Bear charges luxury-hotel prices but misses out the free luxury-hotel nibbles, and ordering two rounds of drinks with small-plate eats (dim sum, spring rolls and the like) can make for an expensive hour. So prepare your wallet… The bar’s heavily mirrored toilets can be difficult to find, but don’t worry: male staff and customers are quite used to ladies accidentally opening the wrong door.
Giant Robot pulls off the neat and unusual trick of feeling both industrial and cosy, and the split-personality nature of the decor extends to the food and drinks. Here you can dine or just drink from a fine, American-themed cocktail list (manhattans star Rittenhouse rye; a Brooklyn cocktail comes with Woodford Reserve). And the later it gets, the more the drinks come to the fore. A welcome and successful reinvention.
With a picturesque essence in every corner and a vintage look this bar have brilliant cocktails, that involve deft mixes such as Citadelle raspberry vodka with white cranberry and grape juice and fig liqueur and lemon oil with prosecco.
Very friendly this bar offers from Djs entertainment to quiz funny nights. You don’t expect to find a bar like Lost Angel along this sorry-looking stretch of the Battersea Park Road, but there is a precedent: this building was once home to Dusk, which brought a little glamour to the street. The frontage now reads ‘Bar, Restaurant, Boozer’, more a sign of true versatility than of an incipient identity crisis. There’s also a nice little garden. The range of drinks covers most bases: quaffable wine, ales, and a cocktail list split between classics and shouldn’t-work-but-do reinventions, like mojitos made with pomegranate juice and gin, for instance.
