Celebrate St Patrick’s Day on and around 17 March with a parade through Central London, a free festival in Trafalgar Square and many more special events.
So, with Trafalgar Square as the setting for London’s official bash in celebration of their patron saint, a blast is pretty much guaranteed. As it takes place on Sunday March 16, a sizeable proportion of the population is set to be looking appropriately green the day after, which is when St Patrick’s Day actually falls. The theme for this year’s parade, which starts at noon in Piccadilly, is ‘World of Dance’.
This year, for the first time, there’s also an official St Patrick’s Day ballroom dance, in the splendour of Westminster Cathedral Hall in Victoria (2pm to 6pm). Like the rest of the festival, it’s free (tickets will be available on the door on the day).
Back in Trafalgar Square, the Irish Food Market will be promoting farmhouse cheeses, smoked fish, crumbly soda bread and all sorts of other delicacies from the Emerald Isle. All good stomach-lining stuff, judicious consumption of which could just help revellers make it in to work next Monday, when the shamrocks have all wilted and the party’s over for another year.
